A process designed to mitigate performance loss associated with an acute injury, to promote recovery, and to maximize functional capacity, fitness and strength.
Restorative bodywork is any therapeutic or alternative medicine technique, that consists of injury-focused areas and/or tensioned areas (not full body). Treatment may involve manipulative therapy, breath work, then strengthening movement patterns.
CASE: Client presented with R low back, QL (quadratus lumborum) & hip pain after improperly lifting a computer too far from center of gravity. Client sits 40+ hrs/week. Weight trains 4 days week.
Client has no recovery protocol.
ASSESSMENT: compressed/strained R QL (too much sitting), weak glute medius (lack of lateral hip mobility), lack of core stability & glute engagement while lifting.
TREATMENT: myofascial release of area, lengthening of lateral lines, thoracic mobility, activation of glute max/medius & QL.
HEP (home exercise plan): mobility drills for thoracic spine, resistance band work to strengthen glute max/med, strengthening exercises for QL muscles (both).
Cupping therapy is an alternative form of decompression that can be used on hypertonic muscles. It is also used to alleviate aches & pains.
The cup marks left behind reflect the amount of cellular waste buildup in your tissue.
These marks fade as your lymphatic system processes the waste.
Cupping also promotes sterile inflammation. This triggers an inflammatory response, bringing white blood cells, platelets & other healing nutrients.
Cupping can be added into sports therapy sessions at no charge.
Manual therapy treatment for isolated injuries, specific pathologies, or just athletic maintenance to continue one's peak performance.
Sports therapy enhances the body's recovery process.
Therapeutic techniques are used to regain normal function, improve ROM and successfully recover from various sports' stressful demands.
Treatments may include, MFR (myofascial release), cupping, Graston, MAT (myoskeletal alignment techniques), stretching, and corrective strengthening exercises.
Cost: $85 // 60 mins
An active-assisted stretching session is delivered 1:1 and uses a wide range of stretching and mobility techniques.
Stretches possibly used w/n a session are; active, PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation), and Thai lengthening movements.
Assisted stretching increases flexibility & joint mobility, improves range of motion, and promotes relaxation. It helps decrease pain and tension through release of the tissue, and lowers your risk of injury.
Most repetitive movements we do daily create compressed, shortened muscles. So how often do you lengthen your muscles to their end-range? You must lengthen before you strengthen.
Cost: $85 // 60 mins
The benefits of functional strength training enhance the same muscle movements you use in everyday life.
This training is usually specific on exercising several muscles and joints together. Or the focus is targeted to strengthening the posterior kinetic chain (which runs from the neck down to the ankles), often the glutes, hamstrings, and lower back. Strengthening these muscles helps reduce low back pain, improves posture, and boosts athletic performance
Examples: a) strengthening external rotator cuff muscles to mitigate shoulder injuries; b) strengthening deep hip flexors (stop stretching them!) to improve your walking/running gait cycle; c) as a senior elder, practice bodyweight squats to improve the ability to stand up with ease from a sitting position.
Everyday activities can get easier when you train for them.
Cost $85 // 60-mins

A licensed practitioner since 2001.
Now working in Arizona (permanently) & California (seasonally).
V'z Sports Therapy was established in CA in January 2015, w/a vision to merge manual therapy, strengthening exercises & education to help athletes & active people maintain their peak performance.
Our bodies are shaped by how we use them. When presented w/pain and/or injury, rather than 'chasing the pain', let's evaluate the root cause, then work to create new behaviors.
At 61 years of age, it is my grateful reward to continue working w/ others on the care & strength of their bodies, and share what has worked for me.
